I just want to quickly preface this article written by Charlie Peacock in what is the last issue to be printed of the age old CCM Magazine. I don’t personally know Charlie other than a few brief conversations back and forth via Facebook. But his thumbprint has been a part of my life since I was a young moron running around singing “In the Light” at the top of my lungs. Those of you who grew up sheltered in the realm of Christian music (myself included) may not know it but Charlie had a huge part of a majority of what influenced you as a kid growing up. From Audio Adrenaline to Amy Grant, dcTalk, Sarah Masen, Eric Champion, Out of the Gray, Margaret Becker and Switchfoot.
I will follow up this post at some point this week by sharing with you my perspective of it all from my days as a kid - til now, wondering where I fit into all of this. And will share a few encouraging words that Charlie gave me personally this week.

The following is Charlie’s article.
I’m a man with an opinion, and opinions are cheap. I’m riffing here—that’s what musicians do. Keep your eyes and ears open. See what comes true.
The music business aspect of Christian music (labels, radio, touring, etc.) will continue to follow the pattern of the world, especially as long as baby-boomers and Gen-X people are in charge. The pattern is an increasingly unsuccessful business model run by people trapped in a system intent on slow, incremental change in the face of monumental cultural shifts. The music business, Christian and otherwise, has been a wealth-creation mechanism for a small, elite group of executives, songwriters, producers and artists. Those days are over. Still, the old guard won’t go peaceably. They’ll fight for control to the end. When they finally exit, the new music business will be underway. Today was interesting… I am STILL trying to chase down the HD footage that I need to make a commercial. No one seems to know how to get ahold of it. And yet the deadline hasn’t moved and I have nothing to work with! Oh well, something will work out, it always does. I’m sitting here watching Andy Griffith, i think it’s a rerun, it’s the one where the principal freaks out because the kids were dancing immorally in the school play. Kids, pssh. Funny stuff. Well, for two days now I’ve been trying to upload footage from an old concert of mine so that you could see it… Continue reading ‘A decent day.’
I grew up on John Wayne films more than anything else. In a strict household I could only watch Christian TV (reeeaaal exciting lemme tell ya) or anything from the 60’s back that was on mid-day. (IE: Dick Van Dyke, I Love Lucy, Andy Griffith.) I was allowed to watch old cowboy movies and got my feet wet with the Duke. Apparently, it wasn’t bad for a kid to see a cowboy shoot an indian as long as we didn’t know that they bled and died. We just thought they fell off a horse and yelped. I used to run around the neighborhood like a nut yelling “Hyaaa!” and shooting my broken off tree branch in the air. Those were the days; no video games or laying around the house. Everyday was an adventure and I woke up just dying to get outside and use my imagination. I built so many forts in my childhood that I could have provided shelter for a few hundred african villages. But unfortunately for them I was stuck in Phoenix, Arizona.
Having blabbed about my childhood for a few, let me get back to the point of this post. A friend of mine sent me this video (thanks Laraine) that shows what a kind, warm heart he had. Along with a great outlook on life, and being an American. So enjoy this short video taken from Dean Martins old tv show, and go rent Rio Bravo and El Dorado - two of my all time favs.

I went outside this morning around 7am and was pleasantly surprised by a light snow covering the ground. I headed out to my ever-increasing normal breakfast spot up the street. They messed up my order the first time but left the plate, so I had a double dose of eggs today. I now have the eye of the tiger. Currently I am sitting in a *bucks; one of 6 that are within a mile of my house. Supply and demand I suppose. I’m sipping on a B/W Peppermint Mocha and listening to Vince Gill’s “These Days” record with my earbuds. Now before you jump out of your seat hearing that I’m actually listening to country music, let me explain.

Hard work spotlights the character of people: some turn up their sleeves, some turn up their noses, and some don’t turn up at all.

My cousin Jason makes me laugh more than anyone else. I think it’s his quick wit and delivery. But pretty much anything he says or writes has me in stitches. As we all know the Super Bowl is in Phoenix this year; the state I spent most of my years in. He wrote a comment in the online group that my sister, two cousins and I have on facebook. And I’m just going to post it in here… because I can, and I think it’s funny. Continue reading ‘Stuper Bowl’

Living most of my years in the west leaves me not so familiar with tornadoes. I think I need to read a book or ask a few locals about them…does everyone run and hide in a closet with a matchbook and a blanket when the weather service issues a tornado warning? or do they just ignore it and chalk it up to chance? It doesn’t seem like anyone really pays attention…but when my wonderful mac dashboard weather radar widget beeps at me and flashes a red tornado watch warning… and it’s hailing outside with nonstop lightning flashes and thunder… I think to myself… should I now be bunkering down somewhere instead of working in Final Cut Pro or writing this blog?
There’s no place like home.

post-script:For those of you who are still stuck with PCs… a dashboard is a lovely gift from Mac, providing us the ability to place fun little widgets on it that deliver useful and sometimes un-useful information. Click the photo below to see what my dashboard currently looks like. (fun, i know)

Starting out sick is not a fun way to begin the new year. However, it gives me a different perspective on what a new year can provide. Many people will strive to start the year out perfect and see how long they can last with their proclamations of resolutions. Others will simply say,”Forget it, they are pointless and I can’t ever hold to them anyway.” How I see it this year is to start with where I am at…today…right now, and record small steps, accomplishments and milestones throughout this year. Then, at this time next year, see how far I have come - instead of where I failed or didn’t measure up to goals and standards placed on myself. I tend to gauge my years from January to December instead of from one years birth-date to the next. I am excited to see what this year has to offer and to add another twist to it I have also decided to record in a notebook, aside from my journaling, how I am spending my time every day. Attempting to manage my days, both good and bad, and see exactly how much time is spent where…
